If you’re going to physically mail birthday cards, then sure, get a physical address. If you only intend to send emails, then why would you need more information than maybe a first name and an email address?

Third, please note that until you have built trust and credibility with your community, you probably won’t receive personal information from them. For example, if I’m filling in a subscription form, I don’t always know what I’m signing up for. I may use a temporary email address or possibly one that I can change easily.

Also, keep in mind that most people don’t even read their emails any more. Are you someone they know, like or trust? The “From” line on your email is just like the caller ID on your phone. Do you answer the phone when you don’t want to talk to the person calling? Most likely, no. So why would you click on a link or open an email from someone who just wants to make a sale.

Summary: Steps To Make An Email List

Before you make an email list, make the commitment to keep it respectful. These emails in your email marketing system represent people, not just wallets. Provide high-quality information and services to the people and let them decide to open their wallets.

Please don’t be a sales junky that just is out to make the sale. People can feel that and don’t appreciate it.

Plan to use the email list regularly. An email list that isn’t used often becomes stale. If someone signed up and you never email them, it will be odd when you do and your email may get tagged as spam if they don’t remember that they signed up to receive your emails.

Hopefully, these notes will help you keep high-quality contacts in your email manager. If you can develop a good relationship with your subscribers, you’ll have more happy customers that will share what you offer more easily because they like it.

An Email List is a list of people who actively want to subscribe to my updates. An email marketing service, such as Aweber, GetResponse, and iContact, provides the database that will help me manage my email subscriber list.
